“I need some coffee,” my best friend Jessie said to me
outside the university library when we finally stopped studying at 5:45 AM for
our 7:00 AM mid-term in advanced statistics.
“I agree with you, Kelly. We need to get a bite to eat and
get some caffeine into our bodies,” I replied in a concerned tone.
“Eating now will be the worst thing we could possibly do. It
will fill us and make us tired.”
“But I’m hungry. We’ve been in that library since 9 PM last
“I know, Kelly. If it weren’t for us drinking two containers
of Kemosabe hazelnut flavored decaf coffee each we would not have been able to
stay awake long enough to prepare for this test. I suggest we go to the Student
Union and get some fruit or cereal and another container of Kemosabe chocolate
hazelnut flavored decaf coffee.”
“Let’s go. I’m starving.”
Ten minutes later we arrived at the Student Union, which was
almost empty due to the fact it only just opened ten minutes ago. “Why don’t
you go and get us some fruit and I’m go and get us the coffee,” I suggested to
Kelly. “We’ll meet at that table over there,” referring to the table next to
the closed End Zone sandwich shop. “What kind of coffee do you want?”
“I guess I better stay with the chocolate hazelnut flavored
decaf coffee we’ve been drinking all night.”
“Good choice, Kelly,” I answered. Adding, “The fact that it
is flavored decaf coffee will keep us calm during the test.”
To make a long story short, Kelly and I had an invigorating
light breakfast that gave us enough energy to not only stay awake, but focus, when
we took our mid-term exam. Two weeks later upon learning that we both had
passed the exam-Kelly with an 83 and myself, an 86-Kelly suggested, “Why don’t
we go to the Student Union and celebrate with our ‘Trusted Friend’ Kemosabe,”
she suggested referring to the fact that Kemosabe coffee was named after the
famed ‘Lone Rangers’ radio show’s directors father Michigan children’s camp
named ‘Ke Mo Sah Bee’, which translates to ‘Trusty Friend’.
“Why’s that?” I asked.
“Because we have another test in an hour and I want to stay
alert and awake,” she answered as we both joined arms and began to walk towards
the Student Union laughing as we went.
