Enjoying KEMOSABE Gourmet Coffee To The Sounds Of Chrips

Enjoying Gourmet Coffee To The Sounds Of ChripsThe chirping sound awoke me at 3:48 AM. At first I wasn’t sure what it was I was hearing as I was still half asleep. Shortly after 4 AM the chirps became constant, each at equal intervals. I came to realize the noise was coming from the smoke detector on the wall immediately adjacent to my bed. The battery must have “died” during the night causing the smoke detector’s battery alert system to be activated.

There is a well know saying in life, “The only two things in life that are certain are death and taxes.” Well I want to add another thing to that statement. I’m sure you will agree the person who invented the smoke detector did it with two features in mind. First, to ALWAYS have the battery die in the middle of the night, and second, to have the chirping sound NEVER stop even after you have disconnected the battery and the electrical connection. Such was the case last night, and of course I didn’t have a replacement battery. The only way I could stop from hearing the chirping sound was to wrap the smoke detector in, not one, but two towels and put it in the kitchen cabinet furthest from the bedroom, so my wife’s sleep would not be interrupted.

The kitchen clock had told me that I was “fussing” with the smoke detector for 25 minutes. Since I was wide-awake, and would have gotten up in another 45 minutes anyway, I decided to make myself a cup of Kemosabe crème butterscotch flavored gourmet coffee. While I was enjoying my gourmet coffee to the tune of constant chirping, I made a mental note to stop by the grocery store on the way home tonight and buy a replacement battery, you know the ones that state they last 5 years and are guaranteed to expire in the middle of the night.
