It was the first day at my new job, executive assistant to
Mr. Flowers (Logan), Director of Operations at Pinecrest Plumbing and Supply in
Little Rock, Arkansas. After Logan and I had met for twenty minutes reviewing
his daily routine, he asked me to get him a container of French vanilla decaf
“Madison! Logan called out from his office in an authoritative
tone. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he announced. “This is the worst decaf flavored
coffee I think I ever had,” he stated as I walked into his office.
“I’m sorry you don’t like it, Login. I got you what you
asked for-a French vanilla flavored decaf coffee, so that’s what was available
in the breakroom. A K-cup French vanilla,”
Without letting me finish, Login interrupted. “That’s the
whole problem,” he stated. “In my opinion that K-Cup coffee is nothing more than
diluted water with basically little if any flavoring in it. “I’m sorry, Madison,”
Logan apologetically stated. “I should have been more clear. Here’s how it
works,” he began by reaching down to open the bottom draw to his desk. “In my
bottom right hand draw of my desk I have a fifty box of Kemosabe decaf flavored
coffee. The box contains ten single serve packets of each of the Kemosabe decaf
flavored coffee-mocha, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate Irish
cream and French vanilla. So when I say that I would like a french vanilla
decaf flavored coffee you can find the coffee packet in this box. So here is
the French vanilla decaf flavored coffee packet for you to make a cup of
coffee. Would you like one?”
Ten minutes later, I returned to Logan’s office with two
containers of Kemosabe French vanilla decaf flavored coffee. “This is the best French
vanilla flavored coffee I think I ever had,” I stated to Logan as I entered his
office and handed him his container of coffee.
“And you know what is the best thing about Kemosabe flavored
“It’s 99.9 % caffeine
free, so you wouldn’t get the jitters all day.”
“I guess I’ll be drinking a lot of Kemosabe,” I stated as I
turned and began to walk out of Logan’s office, referring to the fact that he
gave me the jitters, at least on day one, anyway.
