“Billy, remember tomorrow morning, first thing, where going
to the gym,” I said to my roommate as we sat on the couch watching the end of
the Jets-Buffalo game. “You appointed me your coach and you made a resolution
to get an eight pack back by the summer.”
“I know, Gary, it’s just hard getting up at 4:30 AM, getting
into a freezing cold car and driving fifteen minutes to the gym,” he replied
with the energy of a lazy dog in mid-August.
“Well you’re going to do it this time, Billy! I’ll see to
it.”

For the past six weeks, since Thanksgiving when, if you are
like most people you consumed about 4000 calories, to now, a few days after New
Year’s day, you have absolutely abused your body. You attended three or four
Christmas parties, one party at a neighbors and had three or four heavy family
meals to “celebrate” Christmas. Most likely you gained an average of five to
seven pounds from all the alcohol and food you consumed. It’s now time to show
your body some love.

OK, so you made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight. It
only the second day into the new year and you’re already craving cake, cookies,
ice cream and of course the seven hundred calorie mocha latte you have been
getting as part of your morning routine to pay homage to that “shrine” of a
body you have. Enough already. Recapture the inspiration you had when you made
your resolution to lose weight. It can be done. Many before you have done it.
Do it this time.

“What a New Year’s Eve party I stated to my
girlfriend, Kathy, as I spoke into my cell phone. “I didn’t get home until
twenty after four this morning,” I added as I sat up in bed barely having the
energy to run my hand through my hair. “Everyone from work was there. Even
Derek.”
“I know, I saw the way he was looking at you all
night,” Linda replied. “He’s the cutest guy in the company.”
“I know.”
